The top 10 knockouts in boxing history

The best finishes of all time

The top 10 knockouts in boxing history

10. Mike Tyson-Michael Spinks (June 1988)

Undefeated Spinks, having been down, gambles with a right (which misses) and Tyson nails him flush with a brilliant short counter right. Spinks goes down hard, lifts his head but is counted out.

9. Bob Foster-Dick Tiger (May 1968)

Towering Foster waited patiently to explode his right. When he did, Tiger, who’d never been stopped, was stunned. Foster finished it with a fast salvo, leaving Tiger on his back.

8. Ray Leonard-Dave Green (March 1980)

The smooth Leonard unleashes a snapping pin-point combination ending with a lightening left hook. Green is out as soon as the punch lands.

7. Jersey Joe Walcott-Ezzard Charles (July 1951)

Jersey Joe steps forward so casually, slips a jab beautifully and uncorks a stunning left uppercut to the jaw in the seventh to win the world heavyweight title. Charles plummets to the floor on his front and barely moves.

6. Floyd Patterson-Ingemar Johansson II (June 1960)

Huge, leaping left hook to the chin flattens in four the Swede, whose legs went stiff as a board.

5. Mike McCallum-Donald Curry (July 1987)

The classic spread-eagle finish: McCallum lands a left to the jaw and Curry goes to sleep.

4. Julian Jackson-Herol Graham (November 1990)

Sends shivers down your spine: Graham forces the fight and walks into a dynamite right. He’s out before he hits the deck.

3. Rocky Marciano-Jersey Joe Walcott (September 1952)

Walcott topples slowly to the floor, one arm draped over the ropes, staring at the floor as Marciano walks away, having landed an explosive right. Jersey Joe finishes with his head on the ground as the referee reaches 10.

2. Tommy Hearns-Roberto Duran (June 1984)

Face first, a bearded “Hands of Stone” falls flat from a whipping long right to the jaw.

1. Ray Robinson-Gene Fullmer (May 1957)

Everyone knew Gene was a rock. But an incredible lead left hook in the fifth, thrown so quickly, took out the middleweight champ for the full count. Chilling.
