The Big Question: If you were to recommend one classic fight to watch during this period of boxing downtime, what would it be and why?

This week's panellists are asked to recommend a fight they would consider ideal to watch during this unfortunate period of self-isolation

The Big Question: If you were to recommend one classic fight to watch during this period of boxing downtime, what would it be and why?

Michael Conlan (Featherweight contender)

I’d recommend sitting down and watching all the fights of the Fantastic Four (‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler). We have plenty of time to kill.

Andy Clarke (Boxing commentator)

I’d go for Chris Eubank vs. Michael Watson. I grew up with Eubank, (Nigel) Benn, Watson, (Steve) Collins etc, and it’s an era etched vividly in my memory. Tragic outcome to Eubank vs. Watson, of course, but an incredible fight.

Wayne Alexander (Former European super-welterweight champion)

The first classic that comes to my mind would be Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor. That was one of the most anticipated fights of the Nineties and is a personal favourite of mine. It matches the aggressive hooking and body-punching style of Chavez against the silky speed and skills of Taylor and its ending remains controversial to this day.

Nigel Wright (Former English super-lightweight champion)

It’s hard to pick one but Micky Ward vs. Arturo Gatti was unreal. It had everything. It was like a real Rocky movie. I’ll sneak two more in there: Alex Arthur vs. Michael Gomez, because the atmosphere was electric, and, for the purists, (Floyd) Mayweather vs. Canelo (Alvarez).
