GERVONTA Davis and Lamont Roach face off in Brooklyn this evening as ‘Tank’ looks to deliver his first big statement performance of 2025.
Davis (1/20) is a strong favourite against a man in Roach (19/2) moving up in weight who already stumbled at a lesser level in the past. Davis is a master of getting rid of overmatched opponents. Roach is no fool but Gervonta hits differently.
The Baltimore banger holds the WBA lightweight title and has no concerns giving away early rounds, allowing opponents to work harder before the big KO catches up with them. Roach holds a belt down at super-featherweight and is a fast and savvy operator. Getting through the fight unscathed is a challenge.
‘Tank’ has a habit of catching up with opponents at some stage. Frank Martin enjoyed early success, as did Rolando Romero, before Davis lowered the axe in spectacular fashion. Roach can bag some early sessions but as the championship rounds float into view, Davis should get the job done in style.
