TO confirm himself as a leading contender at super-middleweight, Danny Jacobs wanted an emphatic, statement win over Gabriel Rosado on Friday (November 27) in Florida. He did not get that, although he managed to come through with a split decision victory.

In a harsh moment for Rosado, a mistake from the announcer, declaring the victor from Philadelphia meant he thought he’d won the fight.

Jacobs was left apologetic for his performance afterwards. “I thought I could have done a little bit better,” Danny said. “I obviously didn’t show everything that I needed to.”

“I was looking for shots to load up, I was looking for the right hand,” he added. “I guess I got right hand happy.

“I apologise to all the fans who expected more impact, a more jam packed fight. There’s always next time.

“No excuse. I’m a professional. I didn’t give my best effort but my effort was enough to get me the victory. I look forward, like I said before, to next time giving my fans a better show.”

Rosado was left raging at the decision. “I thought I made it look easy,” he said. “I thought I won today.”
