Deontay Wilder vs Alexander Povetkin edges closer

Deontay Wilder

DEONTAY WILDER could defend his WBC world heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in Russia in May.

Povetkin’s promoter, Andrey Ryabinsky, won the purse bids for the fight with a bid north of $7million. He has since tweeted that he intends to stage the fight in Russia on May 21, though a deal has not yet been finalised between both sides.

Wilder’s promoter, Loud DiBella, was reportedly planning to stage the contest on that date anyway, had he won the purse bids, making it a likely goer.

SHOWTIME have included the fight in their 2016 schedule, though were careful to highlight that confirmation of the fight is awaited.

Povetkin has been Wilder’s mandatory for sometime and there was speculation that the American would avoid him altogether, however the ‘Bronze Bomber’ looks sure to take on the Olympic gold medallist.
