DEMETRIUS ANDRADE defended his WBO middleweight title on Friday (January 18) at the Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York.
Andrade halted Russiaโs Artur Akavov at 2-36 of the 12th and final round. โWeโre looking to get in with the best,โ Andrade said. โAkavov he moved, he did what he did. He used the ring real well. I wasnโt going to try to force anything. The jab was working beautiful all night.โ
He called out the fearsome Gennady Golovkin. โYou put GGG in front of me, Iโm going to destroy him,โ he declared.
Former world champion Jorge Linares, who has moved up to 140lbs, suffered a shocking defeat. Mexicoโs Pablo Cesar Cano put Linares down three times in the first round and halted him at just 2-48.
