LINDOLFO Delgado and Elvis Rodriguez meet tomorrow evening in a genuine crossroads clash of super-lightweight title aspirants.
Delgado (4/6) is the fight favourite and seemingly the man on the rise. His gleaming 22-0 record holds 16 knockouts. He is 30, though, and needs to get a move on. Sending Elvis out of the building will be a much-needed next step towards the top.
Rodriguez (6/5) may have the edge in competitive experience, enough to cause many issues. The Dominican, one year younger with a 17-1-1 (13 KOs) record, is a smooth boxer once he hits his rhythm.
Delgado has struggled at times and been involved in a couple of close ones, or needed his vaunted power to bail him out of situations. Rodriguez is a sharp puncher, good boxer with a jab that can control the range well.
He can be hit and hurt, however. This is where Delgado’s chance lies: getting to the 29-year-old, hurting him and piling it on before he can recover. If Delgado can get on top, land some heavy shots and force Rodriguez backwards, it’s his fight to lose. If Rodriguez gets early momentum, it could be a long, unproductive evening for Lindolfo.
