David Benavidez and David Morrell kept apart at weigh-in

AFTER a week of tension, hostility and drama the David Benavidez-David Morrell ceremonial weigh-in went off without any drama tonight.

The two light heavyweights both scaled just inside the 175lb limit for their 12-round main event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

All week there has been plenty back and forth between both camps but for Morrell this is an opportunity to stake his claim as the next threat to the top two in the division Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

In their final words before fight night Morrell was asked by interviewer Miguel Flores what Benavidez will learn about him.

โ€œOne thing is to say youโ€™re gonna do it the other one is to do it. Very, very different. Letโ€™s see if heโ€™s actually able to.โ€

Benavidez was ready to rumble as soon as he got on stage but at the face-off, where they were kept apart, he was the only one of the two talking. Morrell, meanwhile, chose a more calm and composed approach.

Afterwards, Benavidez told Flores, โ€œAll the talking is done Iโ€™m gonna beat the f**k out of Morrell this Saturday. Heโ€™s gonna see who the Mexican monster is.โ€
