Conner Kelsall wins the Commonwealth title by 12-round decision over Conor Quinn in Belfast

CONNER Kelsallstunned the Belfast crowd by defeating hometown fighter Conor Quinn via majority decision on Friday night in the SSE Arena.

Kelsall judged the distance well for 12 rounds, choosing when to attack and when to stay out of range. His style meant Quinn could not plant his feet and pin him down.

‘King’ Conner collected the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title by scores of 116-112 and 115-113, alongside a 114-114 drawn card.

Kelsall improves to 12-0 (1), while Conor Quinn falls to 9-1-1 (6).

Dublin’s Pierce O’Leary widely outpointed Australia-based IrishmanDarragh Foley in the chief support. Pierce made the fourth successful defence of his WBC International super-lightweight. The judges recorded a unanimous verdict in his favour by scores of 98-91 (twice) and 99-90.

Improving to 15-0 (8 KOs), O’Leary introduced his foe to the canvas in round two with a scything right uppercut. Foley was always throwing back, but it wasn’t enough, as he fell to 22-6-1 (11 KOs).
