BRITISH welterweight champion Conah Walker has been linked with two possible opponents ahead of his first title defence.
The 29-year-old produced a stunning 11th-round finish in his last outing, halting tricky operator Harry Scarff after trailing far behind on all three judges’ scorecards.
In doing so, Walker, 15-3-1 (6 KOs), not only captured the British and Commonwealth titles but has now established himself as one of the most exciting fighters on UK shores.
Regarding his next opponent, though, it would appear that, while an official announcement is still yet to emerge, there are two viable options on the table.
According to a British Boxing Board of Control circular published earlier this month, an agreement has been reached for the Wolverhampton man to take on Liam Taylor.
Taylor comes off a first-round stoppage victory against Sam O’maison after suffering an equally emphatic defeat to former world title challenger David Avanesyan in 2021.
Looking to remain in the win column, ‘Dynamo’ will feature on the undercard of Olympian Pat Brown’s professional debut in a six rounder later this evening.
And so, with his runout against Jamie Stewart appearing on a Matchroom Boxing bill, Taylor could secure his eagerly awaited British title shot before long.
But at the same time, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has previously expressed his interest in a potential matchup between Walker and Olympic silver medallist Pat McCormack.
Whether Walker’s British title would be approved for that fight, however, is another question altogether, with Taylor having already earned his right to challenge for the Lonsdale Belt at 147lbs.
