Chris Algieri misses first attempt to make weight for Manny Pacquiao fight

CHRIS ALGIERI is stepping into an all new class when he challenges Manny Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title on Sunday (November 23). There had been much talk of the New Yorkerโ€™s scientific background, notably his degree in nutrition. Itโ€™s therefore all the more unnerving for him that he came in over the agreed catchweight of 144lbs when the two weighed in on Saturday morning at the Cotai Arena in Macau.

When he first stepped on to the scales Algieri, who has come up from light-welter, weighed 144.4lbs (WATCH HERE). Screened behind his Stony Brook jersey, he removed his underwear and tried a second time. He was still 0.2lbs over (WATCH HERE).

On the stage Algieri maintained, โ€œI know I did all the hard work I need to do. I know that I have the talent and the skills to do it. This is a dream come true, weโ€™re ready to rock.โ€

After facing Pacquiao, Algieri eventually returned to a now silent arena and scaled 143.6lbs (WATCH HERE). The fight is on.
