Caroline Dubois expected to dazzle in WBC title defence against Jessica Camara

CAROLINE Dubois is gearing up to make the first defence of her WBC world lightweight title against Jessica Camara this Saturday.

The pair will lock horns at the Park Community Arena in Sheffield, England, appearing on the undercard of Callum Simpson vs Steed Woodall.

Dubois remains one of the most dazzling talents on British shores, with the unbeaten champion utilising her blistering hand speed and sharp footwork to secure 10 victories as a professional.

In all of her outings, the 2020 Olympian has barely even lost a round, with each comprehensive performance generating plenty of excitement around her promising career.

After claiming the WBC interim title in her last contest against Maira Moneo, Dubois was upgraded to full champion following Katie Taylor’s decision to vacate her strap.

And while a showdown between the pair would certainly deliver a compelling spectacle, the Irish phenom – now enhancing her legacy at 140 lbs – is, at least at this stage, perhaps a step too far for the 23-year-old.

Nevertheless, ‘Sweet Caroline’ looks set to cement her greatness in years to come, but before reaching the pinnacle of her sport, amassing multiple accolades and career-defining moments, she must first take care of business against Camara.

Despite representing a step up from Dubois’ usual level of opposition, Camara has done little to prove that she is anywhere near the calibre of her upcoming opponent.

The 36-year-old’s most notable victory arrived back in 2021, when she outpointed seasoned operator Heather Hardy before falling short in her only world title shot against Kali Reis.

What is more concerning, though, is that the Canadian has previously been stopped by two fighters who, in truth, have never come close to reaching world level.

And so, with Dubois expected to come through her test in emphatic fashion, it is worth considering the mouth-watering unifications she could enter in 2025.

Newly-crowned WBO titlist Terri Harper, for instance, would make for an intriguing opponent, while IBF belt holder Beatriz Ferreira also represents a formidable step up in levels.

And yet, with both champions belonging to the Matchroom stable, it may take some before Dubois – promoted by Boxxer – is given her opportunity to collect more trinkets.
