THE long-awaited super-bantamweight clash between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg has finally been confirmed for February 27.
The pair will meet for Frampton’s IBF belt and Quigg’s WBA strap at the Manchester Arena.
Negotiations have been ongoing for some time and one of the final hurdles was cleared when the WBA elevated Quigg from ‘regular’ to ‘super’ champion after demoting Guillermo Rigondeaux to ‘champion in recess’.
The IBF would not have allowed the fight to be a unification one if Quigg remained the ‘regular’ champion.
Frampton-Quigg is expected to be one of the best fights of 2016, both are amongst the elite of their weight class, both carry power and there’s little love lost between the rival camps as well.
