FORMER two-weight world champion Carl Frampton will face a legal dispute after leaving Cyclone Promotions.

Frampton had been closely associated with the McGuigan family during his professional career. Barry McGuigan was his manager and mentor, while Barry’s sons, Shane and Blaine were his trainer and and promoter respectively.

Frampton left them to join new promoter Frank Warren, took on Jamie Moore as his trainer and inked an ‘advisory’ agreement with MTK Global. His first fight with the new set up saw him come through a hard 10 rounds with Horacio Garcia in his Belfast hometown earlier this month.

In a statement Frampton’s representative confirmed Cyclone Promotions and Blain McGuigan are taking legal action against Frampton, saying that a “disappointed” Frampton “will not only defend this action rigorously but can confirm he will be counter claiming on a number of grounds”.

They added, “Mr. Frampton is confident that this process will vindicate his position and reputation, and looks forward to engaging fully in this process to present all aspects of this claim before the court.”
