Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford set to square off in September
Canelo currently holds three of the four super middleweight titles.

A deal has been reached for pound-for-pound stars Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford to lock horns in September, according to The Ring Magazine.

The media outlet – now owned by boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh – reported via X earlier today that the pair will collide in September on a Riyadh Season card in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As of now, there has been no official announcement from either party, or indeed any confirmation as to what weight they will be fighting at.

It is expected, however, that the two champions will meet at 168lbs, with Canelo, 62-2-2 (39 KOs), putting his WBC, WBO and WBA titles on the line.

Since becoming the undisputed super-middleweight king back in 2021, the 34-year-old has amassed five unanimous decision victories while suffering just one defeat to former light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

But now, the IBF belt that he claimed with an 11th-round stoppage victory over Caleb Plant belongs to unbeaten Cuban, William Scull.

Along with WBA super-welterweight titlist Crawford, 41-0 (31 KOs), Scull is a name that has been heavily linked with Canelo over the past few months.

But still, it remains to be seen as to whether the Mexican will look to become a two-time undisputed champion before entering a potential mega fight in September.

Four-division titlist Crawford, meanwhile, comes off a unanimous decision victory over Israil Madrimov in his first outing at 154lbs.

And yet, despite producing a solid performance at the new weight, the 37-year-old would most likely enter a showdown with Canelo – the naturally bigger fighter – as a sizable underdog.
