CALLUM SMITH has been patiently waiting for his shot at the WBC super-middleweight title against Anthony Dirrell. It will happen but there is, as yet, no fixed date.
“Callum Smith will fight Anthony Dirrell for the championship,” WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Boxing News. “There were some issues with the contracts and we intervened to try and make everything and everybody happy.”
While Smith bides his time, he has been in the gym with trainer Joe Gallagher. “Callum Smith we’re just waiting to see what’s happening with his fight with Dirrell and the WBC. It’s a long drawn out process. We should have something soon,” Joe said.
“It’s been a lot of stopping and starting. I think sometimes when you don’t win purse bids, you’re at the mercy of promoters who do win it. Callum’s in the gym, he’s ticking over and hopefully we’ll have news on that fight very soon.”
