AFTER weeks of whispers, Callum Simpson seems to have finally landed an opponent for his fourth outing of the year. Now, it appears as though an announcement is imminent for the Barnsley fan-favourite to face Troy Williamson in December atop a Boxxer bill.
Simpson, 18-0 (13 KOs), claimed the British title with a points victory over Zak Chelli last summer, and he has followed up that triumph with three knockout wins during 2025: stopping each of Steed Woodall, Elvis Ahorgah and Ivan Zucco.
That victory over Zucco saw Simpson add the European title to his collection and rise in the world rankings (IBF #5, WBA #7, WBO #10 and WBC #11), causing a host of major names in the super-middleweight division to be linked to a fight with the South Yorkshireman.
Hamzah Sheeraz was installed as the mandatory challenger for Simpson’s EBU belt, but the Slough-born operator is instead focused on world honours and is now being linked to a clash with Mexico’s Jaime Munguia.
Meanwhile, France’s Kevin Lele Sadjo has swerved a showdown with Simpson in favour of a trip across the pond, scheduled to face Diego Pacheco on Saturday, December 13, in Stockton, California.
As a result, Simpson has opted for a voluntary defence of his title, agreeing to a domestic dust-up with English super-middleweight champion Troy Williamson, 21-4-1 (15 KOs), who halted Mark Dickinson to claim his title in September.
On the EBU website, it states that Simpson and Williamson will meet in December on a Boxxer show, in what will presumably be the promotional outfit’s second BBC-broadcast card, after debuting with Clarke-Tshikeva next month.
Williamson had lost his three fights prior to Dickinson, but his performance at the Rainton Meadows Arena has convinced fans that he still has plenty in the tank and should not be taken lightly when challenging for Simpson’s British, Commonwealth and European straps.
Additionally, the 34-year-old is known for his durability and toughness and is yet to be stopped during his 26-fight career, providing Simpson with the opportunity to impress when they meet.
