BRANDON ADAMS turned in a tenacious performance earlier this evening, ensuring that he remains unbeaten against Serhii Bohachuk.
In their first encounter, Bohachuk, 26-3 (24 KOs), appeared set to claim a convincing points victory until Adams, who entered their middleweight rematch as a sizable underdog, orchestrated a stunning eighth-round finish back in 2021.
This time around, though, it was as if their roles were reversed and, as a result, ‘El Flaco’ was the one chasing a miracle in the later rounds.
Adams, 26-4 (16 KOs), as it happened, delivered a series of vicious body attacks in the opening round, while Bohachuk, attempting to meet fire with fire, was seemingly hurt by a left fist that crept behind his elbow.
But as the American resumed his onslaught in the second frame, Bohachuk, too, was more than happy to trade in the pocket, and even sent a few sneaky right uppercuts through his opponent’s guard.
Adams, meanwhile, just continued to chip away, perhaps hoping that his frenetic tempo would eventually force the typically relentless Ukrainian into submission.
That outcome appeared unlikely, though, as Bohachuk matched his opponent’s intensity in the fourth round and, after that, began to utilise his own artillery on the inside.
But even so, Adams likely knew that he was ahead on the scorecards and, not wishing to let his lead slip away, continued to motor forward with strength and aggression.
By the eighth round, Bohachuk was seriously struggling to nullify his opponent’s industrious approach and, despite pressing forward, was unable to make a meaningful impact with his own power shots.
In fact, before entering the final round, the 30-year-old was told by his trainer, Manny Robles, that he needed a knockout, but if anything, Adams seemed the more likely candidate to engineer a late finish.
But in the end, both combatants heard the final bell, and as scorecards of 99-91 and 98-92, twice, came in, it was Adams who ultimately claimed a richly deserved win.
