NICOLA ADAMS is through to the 51kgs semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games after a unanimous decision win over Sri Lanka’s Erandi de Silva. Adams had far too much class and ran away with a landslide victory on the scorecards.

“I didn’t know anything at all [about de Silva]. It was just go out there and stick to your boxing, then get back to your corner and they give you some more advice at the end of the round,” Nicola said.

Adams is guaranteed at least a bronze and boxes Canada’s Mandy Bujold in the flyweight semi-final on Friday (August 1). She already has an eye on Saturday’s final at the Hydro. “I’ve always had a really warm reception. The fans have been absolutely great,” she said. “Everything’s just been going smoothly. We’ve even had some sun.”

GB heavyweight Warren Baister lost a split decision to Canada’s Samir El Mais. “I thought I did the better boxing,” sighed a devastated Baister. “It’s frustrating.”

Qais Ashfaq put in a stellar performance to beat Glasgow’s Joe Ham by unanimous decision.
