BRIAN ROSE’S hopes of working towards a second world title shot was dashed when Carson Jones stopped him inside the first round at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on February 14.
Rose had caught the American with hard right hands early on but Jones rocked him in reply and set about the Englishman. Rose’s legs stiffened beneath him, he shipped further punishment and the referee Ian John Lewis stepped in quickly to stop it.
Rose was so outraged at the ending he stormed out of the ring before Jones could even have his hand raised in victory.
“I came here to win the fight and that’s what I did tonight,” Carson said. “It’s not my choice, it’s the referee’s job and he did what he had to do.
“I had to hop on him early, to catch him … and that’s what I did.
“The motivation is back. I just needed a little push, tonight this was the right opportunity to for me and I took it.”
Rose told the Sky cameras, “I’m absolutely devastated. I can’t describe how I feel right now. I don’t think it should have been stopped.”
