Yamil Alberto Peralta Boxer Profile

Yamil Alberto Peralta is an established cruiserweight contender and reigning WBC ‘Silver’ champion. In May 2022, Peralta suffered his sole career defeat to Ryan Rozicki in Canada by a disputed decision. That was the first time he had fought outside of his native Argentina.

Born on July 16, 1991, Peralta was a highly-credible amateur boxer who competed in the World Series of Boxing from 2013-2015. Prior to that, Peralta boxed in the South American Games, winning gold in 2014 and claiming bronze at the 2013 World Amateur Championships. 

Peralta represented Argentina at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Competing as a heavyweight, winning his first match, Peralta lost to Bulgaria’s Tervel Pulev, the brother of Kubrat Pulev and did not reach the medal stages.

Peralta turned professional in 2018, although he would blur the lines in 2020 by taking part in the WBA Future Champions Tournament. Peralta was boxing in 10-round championship contests as early as his third fight, picking up the WBC Latino title. That victory led to the South American regional cruiserweight title and 12-rounders.

The level of opposition was suspect in some of these contests and Peralta’s first major step up in levels arrived in May 2022 when he boxed Ryan Rozicki over 10 rounds for the WBC International cruiserweight crown, losing a disputed split decision. Peralta rebounded with a string of knockout wins before narrowly defeating Thabiso Mchunu in South Africa to reaffirm his spot as a legitimate world title challenger.
