Professional career
Oscar Valdez turned professional in 2012 after his Olympic campaign. His unbeaten run included wins over Chris Avalos and former world champion Evgeny Gradovich. On July 23, 2016, he knocked out Matias Rueda in round two to win the WBO featherweight title. Valdez made six successful defences, including a win over Scott Quigg, before relinquishing the belt in 2019 to begin a campaign at super-featherweight.
Valdez knocked out Miguel Berchelt in February 2021 to win the WBC super-featherweight title. He made one defence, winning a 12-round points decision over Robson Conceicao, before losing the belt to Shakur Stevenson in April 2022.
In August 2023, Valdez lost a decision to Emanuel Navarrete for his fellow Mexican’s WBO super-featherweight title. Oscar defeated Liam Wilson in March 2024 to win the vacant WBO Interim super-featherweight title. Valdez is promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank.

Eddy Reynoso
Oscar Valdez hooked up with Eddy Reynoso in August 2018. Reynoso, who also trains Canelo Alvarez, stated that he aimed to turn Valdez into a complete all-round fighter, with an emphasis on defence. Valdez had suffered a badly broken jaw in his most recent outing against Scott Quigg.
