Biography

Professional career

Liam Paro turned professional in 2016 and fought exclusively in Australia until a 2021 victory over Yomar Alamo. Paro was dropped in round one but came back to defeat the Puerto Rican by split decision over 10 rounds. In 2022, Paro defeated 22-0 Australian rival Brock Jarvis by first-round KO to win the WBO Global super-lightweight title. Paro defended that title in December 2023 with a sixth-round KO of Montana Love in San Francisco.

On June 15, 2024, Paro travelled to Puerto Rico to take on the feared IBF champion Subriel Matias. Matias had made his previous five opponents retire, but Paro did enough to win by unanimous decision. After defeating Matias, a homecoming fight in Australia against Devin Haney was discussed but failed to materialise. It was later announced that Paro would defend his title against Richardson Hitchins in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on December 7, 2024.

Trainers

Alfie DiCarlo

Paro hooked up with DiCarlo early in his pro career. DiCarlo is from a strong boxing family in Australia and boxed himself as an amateur. Training between Australia and Florida, DiCarlo has guided Paro through some of his biggest wins, including defeats over domestic rival Brock Jarvis, Montana Love and his IBF title win over Subriel Matias.
