Professional career
In September 2019, Devin Haney won the WBC Interim lightweight championship with a fourth-round retirement win over Zaur Abdullaev in Madison Square Garden, New York, live on DAZN. Haney was later upgraded to full WBC champion and made seven successful defences. This run included back-to-back wins over George Kambosos in Australia and a tight decision win over Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas.
In December 2023, Haney moved up to 140 pounds to defeat Regis Prograis by unanimous decision, winning the WBC super-lightweight title. Haney did not lose a round and knocked Prograis down in round three. Haney went on to fight Ryan Garcia on April 20, 2024, in a wildly controversial fight that saw Haney dropped three times and lose a majority decision. The fight was later changed to a no-contest when Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.
