David Benavidez is one of the shining stars of the PBC roster. He established himself at super-middleweight and held the WBC title on different occasions. Benavidez has been chasing a fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, recording solid wins over Demetrius Andrade and Caleb Plant to further his cause. While remaining undefeated in the ring, Benavidez has suffered some setbacks away from the ropes, as weight-making processes and his overall professionalism have been questioned in the past.

Looking to reinforce his moniker as ‘The Monster, ’ Benavidez’s ability to keep motoring forward behind a raking jab, unleashing combinations to head and body while setting a fierce pace, have become trademarks of this Arizona native, with a strong Latino heritage. Benavidez first won the WBC title at 168 pounds with a win and first defence against Ronald Gavril. In 2019, Benavidez laid a beating on Anthony Dirrell in one of his most impressive wins to date. In June 2024, Benavidez moved up to test the waters at light-heavyweight, beating Oleksandr Gvozdyk over 12 rounds. He next boxes fellow unbeaten David Morrell of Cuba in a Las Vegas clash on February 1, 2025.

Jose Benavidez Sr

His father, Jose Benavidez Sr, trains David. The pair have been together since Benavidez turned pro in 2013.  Jose worked under Freddie Roach and Abel Sanchez to hone his craft. David’s brother, Jose Jr, is also part of the camp.
