BN Fight Facts: Cheavon Clarke impresses in stopping former European champion Tommy McCarthy
Belfast, UK: Cheavon Clarke v Tommy McCarthy, Crusierweight Contest.

THE RESULT: Cheavon Clarke continues to deliver on his potential by stopping former European cruiserweight champion Tommy McCarthy midway through the fourth round.

KEY MOMENTS: In the first two rounds Clarke started quick putting McCarthy on the back foot to find out what the veteran had left. His pressure forced the Irishman to stand his ground. After 30 seconds of round four McCarthy was down after a Clarke uppercut, of which there were many, got through. With the writing on the wall Clarke poured it on and never let up forcing referee Steve Gray to stop the contest.

RECORDS: Clarke remains unbeaten at, 8-0 (6), while McCarthy’s record now reads, 20-6 (10).

TALKING POINT: The opening seconds in rounds one and two. Clarke laid a marker in each instance. The Clarke uppercut also proved to be a dangerous weapon which will serve him well moving forward.

QUOTABLE: Speaking about the finish to the fight Clarke told DAZN, “It was gonna happen anyway. There was a lot of talk at the weigh-in and I don’t really talk a lot. Punishment had to be dished out.” And of the future, Clarke aimed a shot at British cruiserweight champion Isaac Chamberlain. “I’ve been mandatory for the British title since June. They can run but they can’t hide.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Clarke would love a shot at the Lonsdale belt and a bout between himself and Chamberlain is a tantalising prospect, but different broadcasters may prevent that. As for McCarthy that may be his last outing in a professional boxing ring.
