Ben Shalom teases showdown between Lee Cutler and Sam Eggington for April

AN appetising domestic dustup between super-welterweight operators Lee Cutler and Sam Eggington is being targeted for April, says Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom.

The pair are likely to square off in the Midlands, where former European and British champion Eggington, 35-9 (20 KOs), has established himself as a local fan favourite.

Not only that but ‘The Savage’ has also garnered widespread support for his all-action style, rarely failing to deliver fireworks throughout his rollercoaster career.

After losing to former world title challenger Dennis Hogan back in 2022, Eggington bounced back – as he seemingly always does – with two consecutive stoppage victories.

The more recent of which arrived against Joe Pigford when, despite entering the fight as a sizable underdog, Eggington nonetheless produced a scintillating fifth-round finish on away soil.

Since then, the 31-year-old has suffered just one defeat to European titlist Abass Baraou, before returning to the win column towards the end of last year.

Cutler, 15-1 (7 KOs), meanwhile, comes off a career-best performance against Stephen McKenna in December, flooring his rangy opponent twice before edging a majority decision.

The narrow scorecards did not truly reflect the nature of the fight, though, as ‘Chaos’ was able to outbox McKenna through large spells of their enthralling 10-round battle.

Shortly after his win, the 29-year-old expressed his desire to headline a card in Bournemouth, England, where his friend and stablemate, Chris Billam-Smith, has built a strong fanbase.

But before presenting him with a homecoming opportunity later this year, Shalom is keen to see Cutler resume his momentum against a battle-hardened veteran.

“We’re doing a show in the Midlands [towards the end of April] and we’d like him to fight Sam Eggington,” Shalom told Boxing News. “I’d love to see that fight.

“We really do want to get back to Bournemouth. Lee deserves it; he deserves to headline. We’ll look for the right fight – maybe even next – but there’s a big fight there against Sam Eggington.”
