Anthony Cacace responds to Leigh Wood call-out

ANTHONY CACACE says he would happily fight Leigh Wood but wants paid well for doing so.

The 35-year-old currently holds the IBF super-featherweight title and must face mandatory challenger Eduardo Nunez next. However, there are other options on the table for Cacace such as a fight against Wood or moving up to lightweight.

Cacace still has time on his side, however, as a fight against Nunez does not have to take place until March 2025. Facing Wood, though, would mean vacating his world title and that would come at a price.

โ€œIf Iโ€™m going to have to vacate a belt I want paid to vacate the belt and my purse on top,โ€ Cacace told Boxing News.

โ€œItโ€™s not just vacating, itโ€™s giving away your crown and thatโ€™s youโ€™re bargaining chip. Once thatโ€™s gone, itโ€™s gone. If the Leigh Wood fight was to come Iโ€™m more than happy and he knows that as well. Iโ€™m more than happy to fight that fight but I have to be sorted for the IBF and for the fight and assured Iโ€™ll get some shot at the winner of Nunez and whose next.โ€

Cacace knows just what itโ€™s like to wait on a world title shot and says Nunez deserves his chance.

โ€œHeโ€™s stepped aside [for] that last one [against Warrington],” the champion said.

“Heโ€™s been waiting on the sidelines a while now and he deserves his chance. Itโ€™s nice being the champion and not being in that position but I know that position heโ€™s in and itโ€™s not nice to be there. Itโ€™s Nunez as of now but we need to iron things out.โ€
