Amir Khan: ‘The way I’ll destroy Kell Brook, he’ll need to retire’

MY job is just to go in there and do what I do best. With Kell Brook, heโ€™s very emotional because heโ€™s wanted this fight for a very long time. Heโ€™s very emotional because heโ€™s seen my career do so well in America, come back to UK, sell out arenas and make a lot of money in this sport.

The weight was one issue. I was never happy making 149lbs. Two pounds makes a massive difference, people donโ€™t understand that, especially when youโ€™re cutting weight. I thought you know what, Iโ€™m going to go ahead with. Iโ€™m going to go ahead with it, weโ€™re going to make the fight happen and I agreed. Iโ€™m glad that Sky were on board.

If it was to do with the money I think I would have definitely gone with Eddie Hearn but then that means less people are going to see the fight, itโ€™s not going to be promoted the same way as Sky so thatโ€™s the reason I went with Sky.

With Kell, heโ€™s always had that bit of jealousy, heโ€™s always had that chip on his shoulder and look, Iโ€™ve gone my own way. Iโ€™ve surpassed whatever heโ€™s done in boxing. Itโ€™s more jealousy than anything.

I think his punch resistance is gone. Literally gone. I honestly believe that heโ€™s doing this fight for that pay day. Iโ€™m doing it for the public, giving the fans that they want.

The way Iโ€™ll destroy him, I think heโ€™ll need to retire. This will be his last fight.

I have to win this fight. If this is one of my last big fights I want to make sure I shine. I want to look good in it.

I have to be smart in there and I have to just give him a boxing lesson. Me being over-confident thatโ€™ll never happen because Iโ€™m at that age where I canโ€™t afford to make any mistakes.

I cannot afford to lose this fight. Itโ€™s not pressure I think itโ€™s only going to bring the best out of me. I know for a fact Iโ€™m going to go in there and do everything punch perfect. Thatโ€™s one of the reasons Iโ€™m came out here to Brian McIntyre. I knew it was going to be hard. I knew I was going to be pushed. I know for a fact that if I went back with Virgil Hunter I could still beat Kell Brook. But I needed to make sure 100% Iโ€™m going to knock this guy out, beat Kell Brook in good fashion. Thatโ€™s why I came out here to Omaha and came out to Colorado Springs because I know the way these guys train me is going to be so brutal.

Bo Mac is a very good trainer, the way he breaks down a fight. When I fought Terence Crawford, the way they were making me miss, the way they fought me. The way they had their gameplan from watching my whole amateur career, from watching my whole professional career, seeing the small little points, the mistakes I make and capitalising on that. Why is Crawford one of the best out there? He has a really good team, who push him, motivate him but do all the behind the scenes work.

Why I thought it was a brilliant idea to be with them is because they know me inside out. They watched so many videos when they were fighting me that they know my style, how to improve me, how to make me a better fighter. Secondly they know Kell Brook as well. They fought Kell Brook, they beat Kell Brook so they know Kell really well.

Iโ€™ve never felt this strong in my life and I do feel Iโ€™ve got a lot left in me. Even after this fight I think I will have a few more fights left in me.

I didnโ€™t think I had this much in me. Come fight night, February 19, Iโ€™m going to be more than ready.
