Amir Khan favourite to be Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent

Amir Khan

AMIR KHAN is likely to be Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent according to Betway.

The date of September 12, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has been set aside for Floyd Mayweather’s next bout, and Khan – who has been chasing Floyd for years – could be set to hit the jackpot.

Bookmakers are rarely wrong and they have Khan priced at 2-1 to seal his dream and take on Mayweather in a welterweight superfight. Floyd’s countrymen Keith Thurman (who takes on Luis Collazo this weekend) and Timothy Bradley are also in the running at 5-2 and 7-2 respectively.

Khan’s British welterweight rival and IBF champion, Kell Brook, is priced longer at 7-1.

The fighter many would like to see Mayweather collide with in what is being hyped as his final bout is Gennady Golovkin. Don’t hold your breath seems to be the bookmaker’s advice on that one with long odds of 50-1 being posted.

“Money” dominated Manny Pacquiao in May in the ‘Fight of the Century’ and anyone expected a rematch can get long odds of 16-1 for it to happen in September.

Mayweather, chasing a 49-0 record, recently stated that he would take on Karim Mayfield or Andre Berto next. Most observers believe the mischievous superstar’s tongue was firmly in his cheek but neither have been completely discounted, with Mayfield a 10-1 shot, and Berto 16-1.

The bookmakers, perhaps keen to make the most of any passing trade, have added some curious names to the list of potential opponents with super-middleweights James DeGale (20-1), Carl Froch (100-1), George Groves (50-1) all listed alongside heavyweight 50-1 shot, David Haye.
