Amanda Serrano: ‘I wear my scars with pride’

Puerto Rican on the wrong side of a Taylor decision yet again

Amanda Serrano: ‘I wear my scars with pride’
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 15: Amanda Serrano is treated for a cut post bout she sustained from a head but during her fight against Katie Taylor fight during LIVE On Netflix: Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium on November 15, 2024 in Arlington, Texas (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images for Netflix © 2024)

AFTER 10 rounds of intense back-and-forth action, Amanda Serrano once again found herself on the wrong end of a decision against her nemesis, Katie Taylor. The incredibly well-matched pair first met on April 30, 2022, in Madison Square Garden, New York. A perfect location, in a melting pot of fanbases, their styles meshed for 20 minutes of warfare.

On that occasion, Taylor won a split decision. The second time they met, there was another split, but this time, it was across Serrano’s right eyelid. Competing as the support act for Jake Paul (Serrano’s promoter) and Mike Tyson, it was even closer. All three judges scored it 95-94 in favour of the Bray brawler.

Katie was deducted a point in round eight by referee Jon Schorle for headbutting. Her wayward skull was, in fact, a point of contention all night as orthodox and southpaw waded inside for each frenetic two-minute session. All of Katie’s undisputed super-lightweight titles went home with her. This was weight hopping Amanda’s first title fight since a multi-belt effort at featherweight, defeating Danila Ramos over 12, three-minute rounds.

That was unusual for women’s boxing, but she wants to return to a similar timeframe for Ireland vs Puerto Rico Part Three. Taylor tentatively agreed. Only that format would remove Katie’s main strength: the stamina of quick bursts that served her well in Texas and has done throughout an eight-year career spent mostly at the top.

As for Serrano? She sent out this message on X, showing the true extent of the laceration that would’ve curtailed the evening of lesser beings.

I’ve never been a Fouling fighter & I’ve always given it my ALL.

I Don’t make a habit of talking down to other fighters or including myself in their
Fight praise conversations. I stay in my lane all the time and do me
