RICKY BURNS was coming off a torrid run when he welcomed Dejan Zlaticanin to Glasgow on June 27. However, it was thought that the Scot – who had lost his WBO lightweight title to the brilliant Terence Crawford three months before – would have too much for the unbeaten Montenegro southpaw.

But Burns was dropped in the opening round and struggled to recover. He did edge into the contest but the split decision in Zlaticanin’s favour was ultimately kind to Burns, who was left with his career in ruins.
