Tim Bradley: ‘I want to knock Jessie Vargas out and put him to sleep’

SPEAKING ahead of his June 27 fight with Jessie Vargas, Tim Bradley gave an update on his progress in training for this key clash. “I want to be strong and get a decisive win over Vargas – like knock him out and put him to sleep. ย I know he’s going to have a will to win but I am generating more power in camp. I’ve gone back to my roots in training, doing things which got me to this high level,” said the former WBO welterweight champion. “I am not on a vegan diet for this training camp. I am eating fish, chicken and once a week, steak, to help build up my strength and power.”

Bradley needs a victory here. While Jessie Vargas is unbeaten, Bradley hasn’t picked up a win since outpointing Juan Manuel Marquez in 2013, a highly creditable result of course. Last year he lost to Manny Pacquiao and suffered a curious split draw decision against Diego Chaves in December. Vargas though has not boxed a fighter of Tim Bradley calibre.

“I have more big fight experience than Vargas, more speed, more power and I am the better athlete. Vargas knows in his heart I am going to bring it. ย In the ring I will tellย  Vargas, ‘this in my time, not yours,'” Tim said.

“I don’t care if Vargas is training in the mountains with his new trainer Erik Morales. ย The StubHub Center is my War Ground as Vargas is about to find out.”

Bradley’s trainer Joel Diaz added, “We went back to old school training — sledgehammers, medicine balls, swimming. This is a hard camp but we are facing a fighter who hungers to win. But Tim has too much power and more experience than Vargas.”
