The animal in James DeGale worth backing against Andre Dirrell

JAMES DEGALE is a slight favourite to take the vacant IBF super-middleweight title against talented American Andre Dirrell in Boston tonight, according to BETWAY.

The Englishman’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, is confident that DeGale – bidding to become the first British Olympic gold medalist to win a professional world title – can go one step further and halt Dirrell inside schedule.

Odds of 3-1 are being offered on such a conclusion, and given the spite DeGale has exhibited in recent outings, it’s a tempting bet. Dirrell is gifted and elusive, but his recent opposition has been some way below that of DeGale – who appears to be in peak condition, and in the mood for destruction.

Punters who fancy an early win for the Brit should study the odds on offer, with good value to be found in the round-by-round betting. DeGale is a fast starter, carries power that connects from unforeseen angles and odds of 16-1 are being offered on James to do the business in the opening three rounds.

For those that fancy a cagier affair – feasible given the slick boxing both deliver – might be tempted by 15-8 for DeGale to triumph on points, or 5-8 for home fighter Dirrell to do enough.

The draw – at 20-1 – is worth a cheeky fiver given the close fight many are predicting.
