DISCUSSIONS to stage a show pitting Matchroomโs British fighters against Floyd Mayweatherโs โMoney Teamโ are on going. But there is a busy schedule taking shape for the second half of 2016, which makes the mooted team match unlikely.
Matchroomโs Eddie Hearn said, โItโs still on going, weโre still talking but the problem at the moment is when we look at our schedule: September 3 could be [Kell] Brook or Eubank-Golovkin or whatever, September 10 weโre looking at possibly Tony Bellew in Liverpool, September 17 will be abroad for a Brit in a world title fight, September 24 is [Anthony] Crolla, October 1 is the Ryder Cup, so thatโs a non-starter, October 8 weโre looking at the Hydro for [Ricky] Burnsโ defence, October 22 Birmingham hopefully for [Kal] Yafaiโs world title and [Frankie] Gavin against [Sam] Eggington and November weโre coming up to [Anthony] Joshua.”
He added, โThe only other thing with that is the fighters that could take part are Luke Campbell, Rocky Fielding, maybe Ricky Burnsโฆ Theyโre quite geographically spread so where do you do the event that really captures the imagination of the city? Iโm not sure how much Floydโs going to enjoy sitting in Leeds having pints rain down on him, do you know what I mean? It has to be in a city thatโs going to embrace the format.โ
