FORMER welterweight champion Shawn Porter claims he is attempting to make a fight with another former titleholder, Andre Berto, for some time in 2017.
Porter hasn’t fought since his electric meeting with Keith Thurman in June 2016, which saw him drop a unanimous decision in his only outing of last year.
Berto is coming off an explosive stoppage win over Victor Ortiz, which came two months prior to Porter’s clash with Thurman. In 2015 he was routed over 12 rounds in Floyd Mayweather’s final fight.
#TeamPorter WILL be moving forward to make a fight with @AndreBerto, this is a fight that I want. AND IT MAKES SENSE. Stay tuned!!

With both men advised by Al Haymon, logic dictates the fight would not be too difficult to make though at this stage it looks like Porter wants it a lot more than Berto.
Keep it 100!! It made sense back in Oct/Nov and you shut it down… Right?? https://t.co/PRBX5rTYyP

While Berto is still on the fringes of contender status, Porter remains one of the top fighters in the division and hopes for a fight with the Thurman-Danny Garcia winner.
