JOSH KELLY and Pat McCormack have reached the quarter-finals of the Olympic Qualification Event in Baku, Azerbaijan. It means they are one victory away from winning a place at Rio 2016.
On Monday (June 20) Kelly unanimously outpointed Estonia’s Kaupo Arro, winning 30-27 for all three judges. Today (June 21) after beating Georgia’s Lasha Guruli on a unanimous decision, similarly 30-27 for all three judges, Pat McCormack joined his GB team-mate in the last eight.
Darren O’Neill’s Olympic dream is over. The Irish 91kgs lost a unanimous decision to Nigeria’s Efetobor Apochi. His middleweight team-mate Michael O’Reilly however advanced with a unanimous points win over Belarus’ Vitali Bandarenka.
