Panel: What can Kubrat Pulev do to beat Anthony Joshua?

Declan Taylor
Boxing reporter

As far as I can see, Pulev’s only chance is to go for broke from the off much like he did against Klitschko. There will be a strange atmosphere because of the lack of fans so he could catch ‘AJ’ cold if he jumps on him – but then risk getting chinned into next week too.

Paul Ready
Boxing manager
Pray that he lands that Hail-Mary shot to stun Joshua. Tall ask. Joshua KO inside four rounds for me.

Matt Macklin
World title challenger

It’s heavyweight boxing and Pulev can crack, and Joshua’s been hurt before. I think he’s got more than puncher’s chance but I don’t think Pulev is going to outbox Joshua. He could catch him. But I think Joshua will win.

Darren Barker
IBF titlist
AJ is better in every department, he’s quicker, better footwork, he’s bigger, he’s the bigger puncher. Everything is in AJ’s favour. Probably the best thing for Pulev would be to close the gap, try to get as close in as possible and throw calculated shots but almost winging them in.

Natasha Jonas
Olympian & world title challenger

Try to make Joshua fight his fight and engage in a war. I think after the Ruiz rematch it’ll be difficult. Joshua showed a lot of discipline in that fight.

Tony Jeffries
Olympic medallist

It’s a tough ask for Pulev at 39 years of age and only a 48% KO ratio. He could try to pressure Joshua to disrupt his rhythm but I expect AJ to win comfortably. I’ve fought in many of the same tournaments as Pulev. He has been around forever and has so much experience but AJ is a different level.
