OVILL MCKENZIE will fight Victor Ramirez for the IBF world cruiserweight title in Argentina next Friday [October 2].
The fight was made after Yoan Pablo Hernandez was forced to vacate the title due to injury.
The IBF confirmed to Boxing News that Hernandez had originally been granted a medical exemption, but as he is still unable to defend his title Ramirez was elevated from interim to full champion.
McKenzie, 35, steps in on short notice and confirmed the news on social media last night. The Jamaican-born Derby fighter is unbeaten in his last four and holds the British and Commonwealth straps.
Argentina’s Ramirez was last out in April when he decisioned Ola Afolabi for the interim title.
