MEXICAN idol Julio Cesar Chavez retained his WBC super-featherweight title with an overwhelming win over Roger Mayweather โ€“ former WBA champion โ€“ in the second round of their scheduled 12-rounder at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on July 7, 1985.

Referee Richard Steele intervened after two minutes 30 seconds of the round, with Mayweather looking shaky after getting up quickly from his second knockdown of the session.

Mayweather was on the floor four times in all during the hectic second round, but the first trip was ruled a slip while another time he was wrestled to the canvas.

But there was no doubt that the 24-year-old Mayweather was in deep trouble after being nailed by big rights to the chin from 22-year-old Chavez.
