EIMANTAS STANIONIS and Vergil Ortiz Jr have been given a new date for their already twice postponed fight.
The unbeaten hard-hitting welterweights will meet over 12 rounds on June 8 at the AT&T Centre in San Antonio, Texas promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
The number three and five ranked contenders had been scheduled to fight on March 18. Their main event was pulled though when Stanionis 14-0 (9) received emergency appendectomy surgery in January.
It was then rescheduled for April 29 but a month earlier was called off when Ortiz 19-0 (19) suffered a reoccurrence of rhabdomyolysis which had pulled him out of a fight against Michael McKinson in March 2022. Five months later the fight was on, and Ortiz stopped the Brit in the ninth round.
Stanionis hasn’t fought since April last year when the unbeaten Lithuanian edged a split decision victory against Russian Radzhab Butaev.
This crowd pleasing top five matchup will see the winner move one step closer to a fight against the one of the divisional top two, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr.
