Manny Pacquiao: “I want the Floyd Mayweather fight”

CHRIS ALGIERI may have survived Manny Pacquiao’s onslaught over the 12 rounds at the Cotai arena in Macau but the New Yorker lost about as comprehensively as he could have on the scorecards. Pacquiao may not have found the knockout win he wanted, but he looks a powerful, dangerous operator. And he called out his pound-for-pound rival, Floyd Mayweather, immediately after the contest.

“I really want that fight,” Pacquiao said of Mayweather. “The fans deserve that fight.”

Bob Arum, the CEO of Top Rank, Pacquiao’s promoter, tells Boxing News: “I’d like Mayweather next [for Pacquiao]… I think we’re getting to the point where it might very well get put together.

“All I know is it would dwarf anything on the current landscape. It would be a fight that the whole world would want to see.

“I’m optimistic of the fight happening.”
