Legendary boxing figure launches scathing attack on UK fans

OSCAR DE LA HOYA may have lost himself a few fans from Great Britain after a recent social media post.

The former boxing superstar turned promoter has worked with a host of star names in his career including Canelo Alvarez and it was a story involving the unified super-middleweight champion which prompted โ€˜The Golden Boyโ€™ to be attack British boxing fans.

An employee of Talksport posted quotes on X from Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom which featured in a Sky Sports story.ย Shalom revealed that โ€œsmall conversationsโ€ have begun over the possibility of Eubank challenging Canelo. โ€œIf heโ€™s ever going to fight in the UK, thatโ€™s the fight and that would sell out Wembley Stadium.โ€

De La Hoya, known for being outspoken on X, replied and said, โ€œIt would sell out the Wembley because UK fans donโ€™t know shit about boxingโ€ followed by a few laughing emojis.

The response disappointed some of those who hit back at De La Hoya. The 51-year-old doesnโ€™t shy from having a dispute as weโ€™ve seen with the likes of Canelo and Eddie Hearn in recent weeks and months.

Whether it was tongue-in-cheek or not De La Hoya will be joined by Shalom in Riyadh for โ€˜Latino Nightโ€™ on November 16. Golden Boy Promotions and Boxxer will work alongside Turki Alalshikh to deliver a five-fight Golden Boy card headlined by the world title cruiserweight unification between Gilberto Ramirez and Chris Billam-Smith.
