Keith Thurman compares Brock Jarvis to “a cardboard box on wheels” at feisty presser

Keith Thurman and Brock Jarvis

KEITH THURMAN wasted little time at attempting to dismiss the chances of Brock Jarvis at their press conference today in Australia.

The two super welterweights meet in the 10-round main event on Wednesday at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney. Thurman is thousands of miles from home and fighting for the first time since his win over Mario Barrios in February 2022.

The 36-year-old, however, laid into Jarvis more than once at the final presser and hinted at a rearranged bout against Tim Tszyu in the future.

โ€œThe world will see what Thurman brings to the table, and from there, you know, I’ll just be waiting for the next contract.

โ€œI’ve already signed a contract against Tim Tszyu once. It was an unfortunate event. We didn’t get to make that, maybe this is the year.โ€

As for the threat in front of him this week Thurman, 30-1 (22 KOs), roasted Jarvis with typical verbal dissection.

โ€œHe moves like a cardboard box on wheels man. A Tetris board in action. He’s square as f***. The boy got no head movement,” he said.

“I’m a two-time world champion I’ve seen this time and time again. I’m not trying to underestimate him. I’m just dissecting who they put in front of me. He’s square and thinks he’s going to drop bombs on an old man.”

Jarvis, 22-1 (20 KOs), looks to be in deep against โ€˜One Timeโ€™ with no evidence on his record to suggest he can cause the upset but Thurmanโ€™s age, injury problems and inactivity are cause for concern on the Americanโ€™s side. The Aussie underdog comes into the fight with only one loss on his 23-fight record. But that sole defeat arrived at the hands of Liam Paro in a hard to swallow one round knockout loss which heโ€™s had to rebuild from.

The Marrickville 27-year-old was full of intensity today and laid it on the line what he plans to do his overseas guest.

โ€œKeith, Iโ€™m going to hit you. And Iโ€™m going to hurt you. Know that. When I get through the first round, Iโ€™m going to punch a hole in your head.

โ€œI looked at him the other day and he doesnโ€™t seem ready at all. It looked like he was involved in a yoga class.โ€

Things heated up even more when the two came face to face but promoter George Rose stepped in between them ensuring all the action was saved for Wednesday.
