GENNADY GOLOVKIN will fight David Lemieux in a middleweight title unification clash on October 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York. HBO will broadcast the fight on pay-per-view.
Golovkin is the long-time holder of the WBA middleweight title but Canadaโs Lemieux will be the first reigning champion heโs fought. Lemieux picked up the IBF belt after an exciting 12 round rumble with Hassan NโDam NโJikam. The Canadian is a dangerous puncher, taking 31 of his 34 victories inside the distance. He is however vulnerable. Lemieux lost twice before he became a world champion. Marco Antonio Rubio and Joachim Alcine took back-to-back wins over him in 2011.
Golovkin has looked the complete package, unbeaten in 33 contests, with devastating power and an aggressive style. This will be his first fight on pay-per-view.
