Gennady Golovkin: ‘Miguel Cotto would be the perfect fight for me’

ON February 21 ferocious Kazakh puncher, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin returns to Monte Carlo to defend his title against Britain’s Martin Murray. In a recent issue of Boxing News magazine Golovkin spoke exclusively to Don McRae about the upcoming fight with Murray and looked forward to potential future opponents. Miguel Cotto, who dethroned Sergio Martinez for the WBC title, is one of the top targets on his shortlist.

“Miguel Cotto is the WBC champion and I would very much like to fight him in a great unification bout,” Golovkin told McRae.

“Cotto is just a tremendous fighter at the top of his sport for so many years. It would make a perfect fight for me.”
