SERGIO MORA is understandably disappointed that his February fight with IBF middleweight champ Jermain Taylor has been cancelled, yet “The Latin Snake” says here in an exclusive for Boxing News that the chance to become a two-time champion pales in comparison to the health and well-being of Taylor; whose recent problems have been well documented.

Q: Firstly, you must be hugely disappointed at the Taylor fight being off?

Sergio Mora: “Of course I’m disappointed at the lost opportunity of winning a second world title in another weight class, but Jermain Taylor is not healthy. Taylor needs help and I sincerely believe that him stepping into the ring two weeks from now would’ve been detrimental to his overall health. I would not want to be any part of that in chasing a dream! A man’s health comes first and God doesn’t make any mistakes.”

Q: You had been training hard, will you still fight in February, against a new opponent?

S.M: “I had been working my ass off! I will still be fighting, yes. I will be headlining in Biloxi, Mississippi, against a top-ranked IBF contender. I won’t let Taylor’s problems hold me back. I have a great team around me in Al Haymon and I’m sure they will resolve the whole matter. Tell my fans in the UK I’m still very active!”
