IN this week’s Boxing News we preview the big Manchester show headlined by Terry Flanagan-Diego Magdaleno.

THE WBO middleweight title fight between Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders was scheduled to headline the Queensberry Promotions bill at Manchester Arena this Saturday (October 10). However, a cut eye suffered by Saunders during sparring led to a postponement (for a second time). The main event on this BoxNation-televised card now sees local Terry Flanagan, 28-0 (11), make the maiden defence of his WBO lightweight strap against his mandatory challenger, Los Angeles-born Las Vegas resident Diego Magdaleno, 28-1 (12).

Flanagan, 26, secured the vacant belt three months ago after his opponent, Jose Zepeda, dislocated his left shoulder and was unable to make it out for the third frame. The manner in which “Turbo” Terry garnered global glory did not impress Magdaleno.
“The title was basically given to Flanagan, while I’ve worked for everything,” the 28-year-old American stated. “The fans won’t be in my favour, but I’ll use that as fuel to motivate me.”
