IN this week’s Boxing News, editor Matt Christie addresses the subject of David Haye’s comeback, and his proposed September meeting with Shannon Briggs.
DAVID HAYE’S quality of opposition is made worse by the grand scale.
Plucking obscure and pitiful opposition from the eternally perplexing sanctioning body rankings in one thing – and by the way, Arnold Gjergjaj mysteriously went from being unranked by the WBO when the contest was announced, to No.14 come fight night – but making an event out of the massacres is quite another. Boxing walks a perpetual tightrope due its brutal nature, and we must always be mindful of that.
Although some may find this whole thing intriguing, they will soon get bored of such nonsense – even a pantomime has a few twists and turns before the inevitable conclusion – or completely sickened when someone gets badly hurt.
