AFTER winning the biggest fight of his career Daniel Dubois is now targeting an even greater prize in 2025.
The 27-year-old Londoner retained his IBF Heavyweight world title in emphatic fashion by knocking out odds-on favourite Anthony Joshua in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium.
Sitting ringside was former WBC champion Tyson Fury and current holder of three belts Oleksandr Usyk, who gave up the IBF title to allow Dubois vs. Joshua to go ahead.
Usyk will next defend his belts on December 21 in Riyadh against Fury. Their first fight in May ended in a split decision win for Usyk which was his sixth win against British opposition. Number five came last year when Dubois travelled to Poland to challenge Usyk for undisputed glory but got knocked out in round nine.
Speaking at Saturday night’s post-fight press conference Dubois made it clear who he is targeting.
“They’re (Fury and Usyk) my targets now. I want to get my rematch and put the wrong right.”
He added, “I wasn’t going to be denied tonight. By any means necessary.
“They was always saying I was going to get knocked out, we all saw who got knocked out. I done the business and I’m glad I proved everyone wrong but this is the start of my journey.
His promoter Frank Warren echoed his fighter’s feelings and reminded everyone of the controversial low blow which Usyk suffered during his win over Dubois.
“I’d love to see Daniel lace them up with Usyk again because I believe he should have won that fight and that it wasn’t a low blow.”
During interviews in the immediate aftermath of events at Wembley Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed there was a rematch clause for his fight and believes the Watford heavyweight will want his own rematch.
